We Added An Electric Vehicle To Our Fleet

We added a Chevrolet Volt to our fleet this week. The hybrid electric vehicle operates on an electric charge and uses a gas-powered generator when the battery runs out.

One of our company’s energy experts, whose service area includes parts of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, will drive the Volt. “Electric vehicles have been available for more than a decade, and it’s becoming common to see them on the roads,” said Market Planning Manager Jason Grenier. “With customers’ growing interest in electric vehicles, we helped provide three electric vehicle charging stations in Bemidji last summer and have plans to install more charging stations in our communities this year. Adding an electric vehicle to our own fleet allows us to apply hands-on experience when visiting with customers about this technology.”

According to Chevrolet, the Volt has a 53-mile battery range and a 420-mile total range on a combined full tank of gas and full battery charge. The car recharges in less than five hours on a Level 2 240-volt charging system. It was the number one selling plug-in in the United States this January.

Our company offers an electric vehicle off-peak charging rate for customers. “We support electric vehicle technology, and our Drive On Electric Vehicle Rate lets customers charge their cars for less than half our standard rate,” said Grenier. “We also offer rebates if customers install Level 2 charging stations in their homes.”
