What is a REC?

A renewable energy credit (REC) is an environmental commodity produced when renewable energy systems generate one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity and deliver that electricity to the energy grid.

Our My RECs program

Operating your business with environmentally friendly energy resources can help you meet your
sustainability goals. However, generating renewable energy resources requires hefty financial investment, dedicated space, and staff able to operate and maintain those resources. The solution is My RECs, a renewable energy tariff for businesses.

Our My RECs program lets you choose to match some—or all—of the electricity you use in your operation to RECs associated with the renewable energy we generate.

You choose what share of your energy—50%, 75%, or 100%—you wish to cover with RECs, and we’ll bill you an associated kilowatt-hour charge. Each year, we’ll retire our qualified RECs on your behalf. 

By enrolling in My RECs, you can:

• Offset your business’s carbon impact. 
• Meet your sustainability goals. 
• Support renewable energy generation. 
• Share your environmentally friendly operations with customers, investors, and other stakeholders.

Eligibility and costs

My RECs is available to eligible customers on a first-come, first-served basis until participation reaches 600,000 RECs—the equivalent of 600,000 MWh.

• Eligible customers have a billing demand over 20 kilowatts. 
• Enrollment is effective on your next feasible billing date.
• Enrollment continues for a minimum of 12 months and automatically renews each year. 
• You may cancel My RECs enrollment by contacting us after your first year of service.
